Microsoft has sought an injunction against the German online newspaper, Zeit Online, after it published misleading facts about security concerns in relation to Windows 8. The paper reported that the German government had issued a warning against using the operating system.
In an article published by Zeit Online last week, it was claimed that the German government had issued a warning to individuals and businesses against using the new operating system from Microsoft, Windows 8.
The report asserted that Microsoft may be able to use Trusted Computing infrastructure as a back door to gain remote access computers using Windows 8. The writer claimed that even the NSA could capitalise on the technology to gain access to computers.
In a press release, Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) denied that it had issued any warning against using Windows 8. Zeit Online refers to the Government’s position in an update at the end of the article.
Amicable attempts to settle
Microsoft reports that its amicable requests to have the misleading article removed were unsuccessful. As a result, the technology company sought an injunction.
Zeit Online has been required to modify the headline but states that it will continue to fight the injunction and will seek permission to continue to display the article in its original form.
